Music For New Media – Academy of Art – 2010-11
I entered the Academy of Art University, San Francisco, in the Summer of 2010. The goal was not to necessarily earn a 2nd Masters but to get training in recording and using music in new applications. The actual title of the degree has yet to be determined, but falls under the School of Music Production & Sound Design for Visual Media.
Consequently I’m pursuing additional training in using both original Songs and Production Music in such areas as online applications (Podcasts, Flash, digital video, etc.), video games (analog/digital) and film scoring.
My grades so far:
Summer 2010
Music Theory – B
Fall 2011
Film Music – A
Screenwriting – A
Spring 2011
Film Theory – B
Anthropology – A
For now, the explanation of the A and B mix is convoluted, with the B’s falling under the influence of Hardship–covered in my Journal–and the A’s acquired by sheer inertia.
As of June 2011, any technical training I’ve received in recording and the application of music for new media is via hands-on, primarily in working with Pro Tools and a wide assortment of Virtual Instruments.
